About Shantaba Vidyalaya
Shantaba Vidyalaya is a project of Malvi Educational and Charitable Trust (MECT); Kukeri. Established in 2005, the school caters predominantly to children from tribal communities of South Gujarat. From 32 students, the enrolment has grown to 688 students in 2022, with 65% being girls and 37% being orphans or those with a single parent.
Shantaba Vidyalaya is affiliated to the Gujarat State Board and serves students from pre-school to Std. 12 (Science & Arts). Over the years the institution has grown in reputation and now attracts more than 5 applications for every seat that is available. Students access high quality facilities which includes libraries, computer labs, smart classrooms, science labs, taekwondo centre and such dedicated spaces to foster holistic skills development. Along with physical infrastructure a lot of emphasis has gone into the capacity building of local teachers, through alliances with several leading knowledge partners. These investments have led to consistently growing impacts, in terms of performance outcomes across academic levels (average 96% passing rate in SSC) as well as students pursing higher education beyond HSC (80% of the current alumni pool).
The school is integrated with a dedicated hostel “Vatsalyadham”, which accommodates 90% of the student count (approximately 610 students in 2022). The Trust (MECT) is one of rare non-profit institutions in South Gujarat which provides 100% free residential education to girl students in higher grades. The future goal is to increase the headcount to 800 students and support a larger pool of alumni pursuing professional /graduate level career streams.
